Kupang.SpektrumNtt.com ||Deputy Head of Mission to Indonesia Kedutaan Besar Australia, Mr Steve Scott mengapresiasi pembangunan Kota Kupang yang dinilainya semakin menggeliat. Menurutnya jika dibandingkan dengan kunjungan perdananya pada tahun 2012 silam, Kota Kupang saat ini sudah banyak memiliki gedung, hotel bahkan pasar baru. Hal itu disampaikannya dalam kunjungan kerja yang berlangsung di ruang kerja Wali Kota Kupang, Rabu (1/12). Kunjungan tersebut diterima langsung oleh Wali Kota Kupang, Dr. Jefirstson R. Riwu Kore, MM, MH, didampingi Sekretaris Daerah Kota Kupang, Fahrensy P. Funay, SE, M.Si dan Kepala Bagian Protokol dan Komunikasi Pimpinan Setda Kota Kupang, Ernest S. Ludji, SSTP, M.Si. Turut hadir dalam kunjungan tersebut Minister-Counsellor, Home Affairs, Ms. Lesley Dalton, Counsellor, Home Affairs, Mr. Ben Nicholls dan Second Secretary (Political), Mr. Thomas Carr. 

 

Mr. Steve Scott menjelaskan ini adalah  perjalanan pertama mereka keliling Indonesia setelah melonggarnya pembatasan perjalanan bagi mereka. Sejak minggu lalu mereka memulai trip pertama ke Papua. Setelah itu mereka datang ke NTT. Diakuinya Indonesia Timur selalu menjadi prioritas bagi mereka. Bahkan bagi Australia, kawasan Indonesia Timur selalu menjadi fokus bagi pemberian program bantuan pembangunan (aid development program) dan juga bagi aid program dari kedutaan Australia itu sendiri. Kunjungan kali ini merupakan kesempatan bagi mereka untuk melihat beberapa bantuan mereka dan juga bagian dari dukungan/support mereka. 

 

Ditambahkannya, malam sebelumnya mereka sudah bertemu dengan Gubernur NTT, Viktor Laiskodat. Pada kesempatan tersebut Gubernur NTT berkesempatan memperkenalkan produk olahan khas NTT, seperti olahan cokelat, minuman Sophia juga moringa yang sudah dikemas lebih bagus, profesional dan menarik. Mereka juga membahas beberapa hal terkait potensi pariwisata NTT yang dinilai berbeda dari Bali. Mereka juga melihat potensi pengembangan energi terbarukan di NTT. 

 

Pihak Australia juga mengaku terkesan dengan peningkatan pelayanan di Bandara El Tari. Menurutnya dalam pembahasan dengan Gubernur kemarin juga dibahas tentang peluang dibukanya kembali rute penerbangan Kupang-Dili-Darwin yang sempat terhenti akibat pandemi covid 19. 

 

Dalam kunjungan tersebut perwakilan pemerintah Australia juga membahas tentang penanganan imigran asal Timur Tengah yang saat ini ditampung di Kota Kupang. Juga tentang penanganan illegal fishing oleh nelayan asal NTT yang melanggar batas teritori sehingga harus diamankan oleh otoritas Australia. 

 

Pada kesempatan yang sama Pemerintah Australia juga menawarkan kerja sama beasiswa pendidikan bagi pemuda dan pegawai asal Kota Kupang untuk melanjutkan studi di Australia, juga untuk pelatihan peningkatan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris serta peluang kerja sama lainnya. 

 

Wali Kota Kupang berterima kasih atas kunjungan perwakilan Kedutaan Besar Australia hari ini. Mantan Anggota DPR RI itu menyambut baik tawaran kerja sama dari pemerintah Australia, terutama beasiswa bagi para pegawai Kota Kupang yang menurutnya akan segera ditindaklanjuti. 

 

Mengenai pembangunan di Kota Kupang, Wali Kota mengakui sebagian besarnya berkat dukungan dari pemerintah pusat, yang dimintanya saat bertemu langsung Presiden Jokowi beberapa waktu lalu. Diakuinya untuk pembangunan tersebut dibutuhkan dana yang cukup besar, sementara anggaran pemerintah daerah Kota Kupang sangat terbatas karena pemangkasan anggaran untuk penanganan covid 19. 

 

Wali Kota menambahkan tentang penanganan imigran di Kota Kupang, diakuinya meski regulasi tidak memungkinkan, namun karena pertimbangan kemanusiaan, Pemerintah Kota Kupang tetap memberi perhatian dan dukungan bagi mereka, terutama soal pendidikan bagi anak-anak kaum imigran serta penanganan kesehatan bagi mereka. 

 

Kunjungan ditutup dengan penyerahan cindera mata antara kedua belah pihak. Mr. Steve Scott menyerahkan cinderamata berupa plakat berlambang bendera dan logo pemerintah Australia dan dibalas oleh Wali Kota yang menyerahkan kain tenun motif sepe tradisional daerah Kota Kupang kepada masing-masing tamunya tersebut. *PKP_ans/irm
